Daniel Johnston, a Super hero in Paris. (2003) - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 06, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Born in USA in 1961, Daniel Johnston lives and works in Austin (Texas). He's especially well-known in underground's places for his music. He dedicates a cult to the american comics' super-heros, like Spiderman, Captain America, Hulk... He takes their figures to project them in drawings and extraordinary narration. So Jack Kirby's Captain America reinterpreted by Daniel Johnston becomes a kind of monster with deformed and disproportionate members, as like Daniel Johnston's mind treats badly the to perfect figures of these super-heros. His drawings are preparatory sketches of his songs, in an other way: the songs would be an extension of the drawings.

During a short travel in Paris for a set of concerts in Europe, Olivier Nourisson's camera follows Daniel who brings us from concert's place to book shop passing through a museum, the camera stay on the border of his mental universe and gives us to see a little, with long silences and moments of frenetic speech, the complexity of his fears and obsessions.
