Born in St. Joseph (the first capital of Trinidad and Tobago) on the 26th April, 1981, Daniel Damnacey was immersed into music from an early age, singing within the community and composing original lyrics. While attending secondary school, he met a talented youth named Kevin Baker. They decided to combine their talents and form a group called Israel Tribe. At this point they entered several talent competitions. One such competition was the television talent show Party Time during the early 1990’s. In one final, the group successfully placed third nationwide. After much uphill struggle in the music industry, the group separated. Kevin Baker ventured into radio announcing while Daniel Bless continued to pursue his musical endeavors. His first major recording was in 2006, a song called Guns In Abundance on the Hear My Cry Riddim for Finland House Studio. This song gave him nationwide appeal. Know Yuhself, Goodness and Keep the Peace were recorded soon after at various studios throughout Trinidad. International attention came when producers from as far as New York and Jamaica sought Daniel Bless for his lyrical contributions to their productions. These collaborations produced songs like the thought provoking Help In the Ghetto, Roots (which reflects on the period of slavery) and the dancehall hit Rock Ma World. Daniel Bless has a delivery which is unrefined and leaves the listener waiting for the next word he is going to say. Daniel Bless has exhibited capturing performances at major stage shows featuring International artistes from Gyptian and Tarrus Riley to Buju Banton and Junior Kelly. His lyrics are heavily influenced by the faith he embraced along the musical path he has taken. Rastafari is the foundation of his being. His music can be collectively described as Roots, Reality and Culture. Daniel states that his music is “spiritual food for the heart, mind and soul… reality music, relating to the matters of this life”. In all occasions he has set the standard which others aspire to achieve. Daniel has Tracks like So Sad (which addresses the issue of missing fathers) while Keep I Safe gives the listener plenty to think about in three minutes and forty- five seconds. Other songs like Nah Bow let the audience know that Daniel Bless would in no way be swayed from the principles and values of his faith. Ah Blessing and Sunshine In Your Eyes are directed to female listeners who can’t get enough of Daniel’s words of comfort and compassion. With the increased international interest in Trinidad reggae, expect to see this humble Trinidadian international artiste worldwide.
