Tommaso Starace Quintet featuring Damon Brown at Wakefield Jazz 2 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 27, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Return of an instant hit with added star trumpeter

Tommaso played Wakefield in May 2011 and we all wondered why such an accomplished and personable musician hadn't visited before. This project is a celebration of the music of Michel Petrucciani the virtuoso French pianist who overcame considerable disability to compose and perform attractive music. He died in New York in 1999 at the age of 37.

Damon Brown is known for his own bands visiting Wakefield but now he adds appeal to this accomplished quartet.

Petrucciani was very much respected by the American jazz community and around the world for his extraordinary technique, elegance of execution, and his charismatic energy conveyed through his many memorable compositions.

Michele Di Toro (the original pianist on Tommaso's album of Petrucciani tunes) is being brought across especially from Italy for the tour. We met him at Wakefield with Tommaso's last appearance in May 2011 and he was very well received.

In the concert, the quartet will perform some of the most popular tunes from his extensive repertoire - Petrucciani led his band over many years, producing a total of 32 albums.

Tommaso Starace - saxes
Damon Brown - trumpet and flugel
Michele Di Toro - piano
Davide Mantovani - bass
Chris Nicholls - drums
