Crystal Shawanda's "Under the Influence: The Acoustic Sessions" will feature me,Crystal,performing my favorite cover songs,from some of my biggest influences,stripped down live,no tuners,no fancy editing,just me. I'm not trying to emulate any of these amazing singers I'm covering,because there's no way to compare to them,but they truly inspired me to sing along! So all I can do is sing the songs like me,and hopefully you dig it!
Episode 6 features "I'd Rather Go Blind", by the late great Etta James!I have always considered Etta to be one of the best female artists that has ever lived,even way before the movie Cadillac records came out. I have always been drawn to strong,yet vulnerable voices,and Miss Etta,set some high standards in my book. This is my tribute to the legend,although oddly enough,we recorded this a week before her passing. Throughout the years,my favorite songs and singers have always been like a shoulder to cry on,so my heart broke along with the rest of the world,when she left us. May she rest in peace.
