Although she may not be a household name yet Crystal Lucas is quickly becoming one of the most sought after R&B artists out of Detroit. What most don't know about Crystal is that she carries one of the most extensive musical backgrounds in Detroit. At the age of 4, her gift of song, as well as her passion for music, began to bloom. Growing up with a family influenced rich in musical talents, Crystal began to develop her songwriting skills at the age of 7. By the time she was 10 she had taken her written works into the studio. It was here where Crystal, eager to learn and develop her creative talents, would blossom into one of the most notable young prospects on the Detroit music scene. Mentored by renowned vocalist and musicians, Glynis Martin, Austin Jacobs(my teacher) , as well as being the younger sibling of then up and coming crooner, Deion Lucas (of 7Mile) , Crystal earned invaluable lessons and priceless hands on experience for vocal and performance techniques. She began fine tuning her talents working on musical pieces as a teen, and writing and producing her own songs. Now, it is those skills that have earned her a reputation as one of the city’s hottest songstresses. She can be heard lending her sound to the most buzz-worthy acts in Detroit’s R&B and hip-hop scene. Her unique vocal approach and perspective has contributed to local music so much, it gained her the title “The Hook Killer.” So far Crystal has collaborated with not only local but international talents such as Dwele (Virgin Records), Mr. Cheeks (of The Lost Boys), J-Dibbs (producer for Aaliyah and Vanessa Williams), Big Tone (MMS/ABB Records), and Deion Lucas and Glynis Martin (Crave Records). Today, Crystal is a notable singer/songwriter with a vast repertoire, and high demand. She promises to achieve her ultimate goal, which is to make records that people can feel and relate to, and use her personal strengths and struggles to inspire and motivate everyone within her reach.

When my father died in 2005 I went into a state of depression taking me away from what I loved. I stopped recording and writing for a whole year. I came back because my father told me to “Never stop doing what you love,” and I just remembered him saying over and over again, "Baby you gone be a star." I just want to make it happen. My family has always been the underdogs, between growing up in a single parent home, to watching my mother struggle taking care of five kids, it was tough. I just want people to see my family shine.
