we spend more time on dance routines than the songs. we don't sound like the white stripes ok? toko thought of the name so now we probably owe her some money or something. we were a 2-peice, now mikey joined, so we rock.

iain and lisa are in another band too, but it's less violent (bearsuit myspace & www.bearsuit.co.uk) mikey plays in giant robot and the city of tokyo also.

thanks to mr owen turner for recording the songs at the sickroom of course

Reviews

Now, Cruiser Chimps. Oh my. By day they’re mild-mannered janitors but it seems all they have to do is don bed-linen capes and blood-stained golf visors to become demonic noise-rock overlords intent on teaching your ears who’s boss.

They match organ-shrivelling squeals and hyper-drive thrash-pop with a growling bass distortion that would make the rumbling bowels of Beelzebub himself sound curiously like larksong – which, by the way, is a Very Good Thing. It’s what I imagine watching a fight between Melt Banana, Mclusky and Swell Maps in a cement mixer would feel like, only ten times more vigorous and twenty times more elating, plus right in the middle there’s a song with discernible lyrics and a distinguishable hook and everything fighting to make its way out of the chaos but is, thankfully, failing.

I. Cannot. Stop. Grinning. They play with such vivacity that it looks like they’re going to throw up, excepting maybe the bassist who uses his bottle of beer as a slide across the fret board while drinking from it. I would weep with pure undiluted joy if the combination of wide-eyed astonishment and the force of the sound-waves blasting from the PA system hadn’t dried my tear-ducts shut.

Drowned in Sound

Lisa Bear on drums poinding like a maniac. Iain bear on guitar, thrusting his punk chords audienceward. These are clearly members of Bearsuit but not as we know them. Louder, punkier, aggresively experimental (rather than pleasingly so). They're letting it all out, as if they've been dying to for ages. They're calling themselves Cruiser Chimps, and they're cruising for a bruising. One song goes, "I found a new way to fuck!" It does this over and over. there, there all better now?

Artrocker

A punky three-piece from Norwich whose indiecore squall contrasts against the twee pop leanings of their regular incarnation, Bearsuit. A torrent of sound, attributed mostly to incredibly loud singer/drummer Lisa, was enough to pierce the eardrums of anyone within a three-mile radius. And while the two lads backing her up on guitar and bass also took vocal duties, nothing quite made me spit up my drink that night than her initial scream.

Rogue Mag

Cruiser Chimps then, an offshoot from two of Bearsuit so as to explore their more post-Melt Banana psychotic predilections. Which is kind of like ordering someone to complete the last ten hours of their community service order for arson by helping out an elderly and partially blind tobacconist with his annual stock-check.

Feel their ramshackle, caustic burn. At one point they laugh amongst themselves to suggest one of them has made a glaring error. Not that you’d notice the difference. Cruiser Chimps prove to be an excellent palate-clearer for a distinctly eclectic club-night.

Vanity Project

Imagine the cutest little cherub girl you can imagine, all pretty and bashful and bright red whenever you say a rude word. Now, give her some sort of sub-machine gun and yank her hair. That may or may not be what Cruiser Chimps sound like. Certainly, they're too cute to be METAL but they're too noisy to be Bearsuit (which is where their two founder members earn their crust). Like the punk metal Bearsuit always hint at, just, without the screaming wall of feedback. We can't wait 'til they get into a proper studio.
