John Hammond Crosscut Saw funky mod soul R&B killer - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 03, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
The son of legendary record producer and talent scout John Henry Hammond, John Hammond - or John Hammond Jr as he is often referred to - was actually raised by his mother and only saw his father a few times a year while growing up.

A prolific musician who started cutting LPs in 1964, he recorded this Albert King cover as the opening track on his seventh LP, Sooner or Later, released on Water Music Records in 1968.

It's a deadly, dirty, gutbucket, filthy funky take on the track and deserves your undying love and devotion.

Dig it.

He began playing guitar in high school, partially inspired by the album Jimmy Reed at Carnegie Hall. He attended Antioch College for one year, but dropped out to pursue a music career. By the mid-1960s he was touring nationally and living in Greenwich Village. He befriended and recorded with many electric blues musicians in New York, including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, The Hawks (later known as The Band), Dr. John and Duane Allman.
