PUBLISHED:  May 04, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
Written by Barry Richards and Larry Kusik, arranged by Alan Lorber and produced by Feldman-Gottehrer-Goldstein.

With a slight name change to Lou Courtney, “Lew” began releasing records on Phillips, Riverside and Buddah. “Skate Now” was a hit in 1967, while “Tryin’ To Find My Woman” and “I Watched You Slowly Slip Away” have a solid northern soul following.

As a songwriter (under the name of Lou Pegues) he wrote "Ain't It The Truth" for Mary Wells and co-wrote "Do The Freddie" for Freddie & The Dreamers and "I Want That Boy" for Sadina.

“The Man With The Cigar” was covered later by Herman’s Hermits. It appeared as the b-side of “A Must To Avoid” in 1965.

One of the song’s writers, Barry Richards was in a twist band with Bobby Hart in the early 60s. He went on to write songs with various composers. Chuck Jackson’s/Helen Shapiro’s “Look Over Your Shoulder” was one of his. The other co-writer, Larry Kusik, also worked with others. Nancy Wilson’s “Never Less Than Yesterday”, the Jive 5’s “Bench In The Park” and Paul Evans’ “The Bell That Couldn’t Jingle (which Larry wrote with Burt Bacharach) are some of his best known songs.

The famed 60s production team of Feldman-Gottehrer-Goldstein scored a #1 in 1963 with "My Boyfriend's Back" for the Angels.
