Copperhead was started in 2003 with Mike Peters on Lead Guitar, Eddie Myers on Bass, Eric Larin on rhythm guitar and vocals, and Nathan Harvey on drums. Nathan was replaced by Chris Lucas, the present drummer when it became apparent that Nathan’s influences were more classic rock than the rest of the band. Chris, a fellow metal head and a good friend joined the fray to play metal at its finest. The first shows were covers but Copperhead was even successful back then, winning a Battle of The Bands months after they had formed. After only a few months, this project started merely for jamming on some covers became a full metal force simply named Copperhead.
The band went through line up changes early on mainly based on the acquisition of a singer that could stand out. From the beginning, Mike and Eric had traded off singing covers but when original material started being produced, the question of who was going to sing was up on the air. Neither guitarist represented the sound that the band desired but the first solution was Adam Carmelli, another guitarist. The idea was for Mike and Eric to still switch off singing but Adam would cover their part for the song they sang instead of playing. This more focused approach to singing was a failed plan and ultimately, Adam had to be booted despite his talent and zeal for the music. With the question still in the air, Copperhead went on until they found John Lammi. John was not a singer but he had the most metal spirit of anyone the band had ever met. His sheer love and devotion to the music set him apart from everyone else and he entered the band in the summer of 2004. Since then, John has become the powerful and provocative voice of the band, becoming and aspiring to the art of a great singer.
With the line-up set, Copperhead began to get more serious, writing more originals and rehearsing more than ever before. They entered the gigging world and began to do shows outside of their hometown La Canada, CA. They started close, doing an impressive show at the Mosaic Café that people still talk about. Then, they began to play clubs in Hollywood, becoming a local metal-machine. They have played in clubs including the Troubadour, the Larchmont, the Whiskey, the Knitting Factory, the Key Club, and have booked their own show at Dr. Music. They have recorded seven songs including professional recordings and plan to release a 10 song album before they graduate high-school. Until then, they will continue to punish the stages wherever they go, playing a modern twist of classic trash metal that will make even the least faithful scream METAALLLL!!!
