Conservative Man originally began as the solo project of frontman/songwriter Ian McCarthy. Having independently released 2 albums (2006’s Communique and 2008’s Mirabel and the Hikikomori), Ian began transitioning from a one-man studio project to a live act during 2008. Following the underground success of 2008's "Mirabel and the Hikikomori" which reached over 115 college radio stations nation wide, in addition to XM Satellite Radio, a couple East Coast mini-tours and numerous positive reviews; Conservative Man was poised to strike once more in 2009, with the spring release of "Imaginary Forces."

Following a the self-produced digital release of "Imaginary Forces" Ian took the full-band into the studio to record a five song EP consisting of tunes from the album. The recording was the result of many live shows and band-growth and represents the first time the band has recorded together.

Here's some very kind words in the press about CM:

".expect a night awash in lush synths, a set shoved along by swarthy post-punk bass, and one infectiously wrought melody with a bit of Britpop sheen after the next."

Michael Brodeur - The Boston Phoenix -MP3 of the Week

".“The Heist” opens like you just hit the jackpot on the fanciest slot machine in the place, only to be rewarded with some classic four-on-the-floor drumbeats and more of McCarthy’s sultry sass."

Jessie Rogers - Teaparty Boston

".swirls with James Cameron underwater-alien effects and somber Brit-pop melodies."

Matt Parish - The Boston Phoenix

".there is a certain dreamy quality to their music—melodies and lyrics contain hints of melodrama, but also of naïve optimism: an unwavering belief that unhappiness is temporary."

Katherine Silkaitis - The Philadelphia Weekly

".a sound meant for epic nights out in the city under the hypnotic spell of a new love. Heartbeat rhythms and gorgeous synth embellishments on “Witness” and “Mayday” set the tone for frontman and multi-instrumentalist Ian McCarthy, whose voice echoes with moonlit lust and longing.

Jamie Panone - The Deli Magazine Philadelphia

"The dark and blissful "Mayday" soothes the head while it pumps Novocaine into your jaw. "We Want a Reception," is full-steam-ahead rock and roll with acid-tipped spikes. "

Michael - Walrus Music Blog

".a cinematic soundscape of lush atmospherics and dream-soaked melodies.Conservative Man’s brand of solitude is the kind you lust after, the kind that leaves you surprisingly fulfilled when everyone else is gone."

Lauren Ciarulo- Sentimentalist Magazine
