Clutch Player is born may 4th 1978, in Paris, France.
At the age of 15, he started a pop/rock band, deeply influenced by Radiohead. Guitar player and singer, he writes more than 50 songs that helped him to build his way to create music. Around that time, he meets hip hop culture with bands like De la Soul, Erik B & Rakim or the first releases of Gangstarr or the Wu-Tang-Clan. Anxious to know more about the origins of this music, he spends his spare time in Jazz, Soul and Funk shops.
Concurrently to his law studies at the University of Sorbonne in Paris, he decides to make his music dreams come true and buy an MPC 2000. With this very only device, he starts to create beats for his emcee friends. After graduated (he still working on a law thesis to become doctor of public law), Clutch P undertook the elaboration of its first solo LP called “The Atlantic Connection All Stars” forthcoming on BBe records, home of Hip Hop legends such as J Dilla, Pete Rock, Dj Jazzy Jeff, Dj Spinna, Marc Mac or Dj Vadim. Owe to new possibilities of internet, he meets and becomes friends with some hip hop legends like Prince Po, Sean Price Wildchild or Insight.
Always looking for the melting of his pop/rock background and his love for classic hip hop Clutch Player’s ambition is to be a music explorer and to break hip hop borders.
Nouveau venu sur la scène Hip Hop, le voyage de Clutch Player dans la musique remonte à son plus jeune âge, avec la composition de chansons imprégnées de l’influence de groupes tels que Radiohead. Utilisant cet héritage pop/rock comme la colonne vertébrale de sa musique, il bascule dans la culture hip hop avec la découverte de collectifs comme le Wu-Tang ou la Boot Camp, ou encore Gangstarr. Désireux de réussir le mélange des genres, il décide de se procurer une MPC 2000, pierre angulaire du beat-making.
Clutch Player met alors en pratique ses compétences en créant des beats pour ses amis et des emcees, formant à l’occasion divers groupes. Tout en perfectionnant son art du beat-making, il s’appuie sur internet pour exposer sa musique et parvient à retenir l’attention d’artistes légendaires dans l’histoire du Hip Hop tels que Prince Po, Sean Price, Insight, Shabaam Sahdeeq ou Wildchild et MED. Tout naturellement, c’est avec eux qu’il collabore pour la production de son premier album solo intitulé « The Atlantic Connection All Stars ».
Sa façon de construire sa musique s’inspire de la volonté de réunir ses premiers amours, les groupes pop/rock, la soul et le jazz, avec sa fascination pour le style d’artistes hip hop allant de J Dilla, Jazzy Jeff, à Madlib et DJ Premier.
Avec cet objectif en tête, le temps était venu pour Clutch Player d’ouvrir les portes le menant vers une nouvelle aventure musicale, d’explorer des horizons inédits afin de briser les barrières entre les genres et apporter son concours à la construction d’un hip hop moderne.
