Can't believe this gem wasn't on Youtube!
January 20, 1955: At the age of 24, Clifford Brown recorded this masterpiece of music and sensitivity. God, the warmth! Simply perfect. Brownie was one of the great giants of jazz trumpet; a year and a half later, he was killed in an auto accident. We'll never know what changes he could have brought to the music.
Recorded at NYC's Fine Sound Studios for the painfully beautiful 'Clifford Brown With Strings,' with the Max Roach Quintet and the Neal Hefti Orchestra. Richie Powell (p) Barry Galbraith (g) George Morrow (b) Max Roach (d) Neal Hefti (arr, cond) plus 6 violins, 2 violas, 1 violoncello. Thanks to jazzdisco.org for the session info.
