BANDONEÓN, composed by Astor Piazzolla and performed by the Claudio Constantini Quintet.

Bandoneon is the opening piece of the "Suite Troileana", a series of four pieces dedicated to Piazzolla's old friend and mentor Aníbal Troilo.
Regarded as one of the most important Argentinian bandoneonists and composers, Troilo was one of the leading figures in tango history and development. He greatly influenced musicians of a newer generation, such as Piazzolla who was one of Troilo's musicians in his legendary orchestra.

When informed on the death of Aníbal Troilo, Piazzolla composed a suite in which each piece is titled as one of the things Troilo loved: bandoneon, Zita, Whisky, and Escolaso. Zita was his wife and Escolaso is slang for gamble.

In this performance, Claudio Constantini's quintet takes this great piece as a jazz standard, adding solo sections where improvisation takes the lead. Constantini's ensemble proposes a fusion of tango and jazz, with original compositions and versions of standards or tangos like this one.
