Background

I have always been a fan of BBC documentaries and wanted to write something that could feature in a BBC film. I tried to capture the thrill of adventure, the awe of discovery, and the sense of being on a journey. I started writing this piece in late 2011 and completed it in May 2012. I find it to be one of my most challenging--yet thrilling--pieces to play.

The idea for the music video came when I asked myself, "what crazy things I can do with a Piano?". Naturally, taking a hundred year old piano off-roading on some of the more challenging terrain in Utah's Wasatch front counted as something "crazy". And so, after much planning, we strapped the piano in a trailer, hauled it throughout the incredibly scenic Provo canyon, and filmed in some of the most beautiful spots in the Uinta Forest. In the process, we startled hikers and bikers, the piano nearly broke my leg, we shattered and replaced its wheels several times, and learned a trick or two about moving pianos in mountains. (Hint: Don't try it.)

Thanks to many friends, family, and passersby who gave precious Saturdays to make this dream a reality. I couldn't have done this without you.
