Dynamic 23-year-old hip hop sensation Scar hails from Botswana and since 2001, has become one of Southern Africas most versatile MCs. Starting off at Botswanas hip hop academy P-side where a team of MCs, DJs and poets got together to learn from each other, his first studio recording was on the DJ Sid presents P-side compilation CD in 2000. A year later the young star participated in the Yarona FM Sprite Rap Activity Jam Final where his appearance led to his first recording contract. In 2002 Scars debut album Illegal Act was released, which was Botswanas first solo hip-hop album. Since then, hes opened for Dead Prez (U.S), Blak Twang (U.K), Hip Hop Pantsula (S.A.), Skwatta Kamp (S.A), Malaika (S.A) and Mafikizolo (S.A). Taking on a new role, in 2003 Scar produced a track for Botswanas top-selling artist Vee for his album, Bazokhala.
Then, in 2004, through the success of his critically acclaimed debut album Scar received 2 awards at the annual Botswana Hip Hop Music Awards for Lyricist of the Year and Track of the Year. In the same year, he also toured Namibia with fellow Botswana music heavyweight Stagga. In 2006 he performed at the Channel O Spirit of Africa Video Music Awards alongside Mr Doe and in 2007 he released his sophomore album, Happy Hour under Breakthrough Records. He also capped 2007 with performances at a Big Brother Africa 2 eviction show, and walked away with the Channel O Spirit of Africa Music Award for Best Hip Hop video, having also scored nominations in the Best Newcomer and Best Southern Africa categories. Currently Scar also hosts a show on Yarona FM, daily from 6 to 10 PM.
