CHECK YO’ PONYTAIL is an 18+, bi-monthly party hosted by IHEARTCOMIX, THE ECHO, VIVA LA ROCK and URB MAGAZINE that takes place at the brand new THE ECHOPLEX in ECHO PARK, CA on SATRUDAYS. For over a year now, CHECK YO’ PONYTAIL, has been the place to be for lovers of innovative, genre-defying music, stateside debut performances and raging dance parties. Over that period of time, it has become one of the most talked about and publicized nights in the country.



Initiated in APRIL 2006 by IHEARTCOMIX, with help from like-minded accomplices VIVA LA ROCK, LOVE YOURSELF and WHITE TRASH CHARMS and for the first year as a weekly TUESDAY event at SAFARI SAM’S, CYP has quickly become one of the most popular nights in LOS ANGELES. From the onset, the plan was to launch a weekly event that would-break the LA club mold, and ultimately act as a beacon for nights of its kind throughout the country. Mission accomplished! CHECK YO’s commitment to exposing cutting edge dance, rock and hip hop music, art and ideas is quickly being realized.



Continuing with the idea of staying on the forefront, CHECK YO’ PONYTAIL added URB MAGAZINE as a presenting sponsor on the evening, and in MAY 2007, just after their one year anniversary, they switched venues and nights. CHECK YO’ PONYTAIL became THE NEW CHECK YO’ PONYTAIL. The new venue is the recently opened THE ECHOPLEX, which is larger in capacity and the new night/time became every other SATURDAY. The move was made to adjust to an ever growing crowd with the emphasis on keeping the night special.



Last year, CYP played host to the stateside debut performance of French electronic duo JUSTICE, along side the exceptional MSTRKRFT, as well as the first LA performances by THE KOOKS, THE TEDDYBEARS and THE HORRORS. Other notable acts have included SPANK ROCK, THE PRESETS, MATT & KIM, DR OCTAGON and DIPLO. CYP has even had it’s share of celebrity clientele with visits from LINDSAY LOHAN, ORLANDO BLOOM, KELLY OSBORNE and ADRIAN GRENIER to name a few.



The night features performances by the most exciting up & coming bands, surprise performances by established acts, special guest celebrity DJs and a raging dance party provided by resident DJs, FRANKI CHAN and PAPARAZZI. The night also features Video Projections by DEMONBABIES and Party Photos by SHADOWSCENE, plus several other surprise goodies and attractions. CHECK YO’ has sees an uncanny amount of press and has been featured in such publications as the LA TIMES, LA WEEKLY, URB, BPM, ANTHEM, PAPER, ANGELINO, DAILY CANDY, LA.COM, PEOPLE, AOL.COM, DEFAMER, PINK IS THE NEW BLOG and SPIN.



There are many other club nights that fuse bands and dancing, yet CYP is unique in that it has time and again been ahead of the curve. The sheer lineage of groups that have graced the evening and debuted their talents either in the states or LA is amazing. CYP also strives to put quality in the forefront with special attentions not only given to the artists, but the kids that come out to support. But then again, why would you think a night called ‘CHECK YO’ PONYTAIL’ would be any different?
