Will cheap turntables ruin your records? - Video

DESCRIPTION:
I wanted to see just how much cheap turntables like a Crosley will degrade your records after multiple spins. So I compared spins on a Crosley to a decent turntable setup.

A few notes:

I had assumed that this was a 45rpm 12", as many of them are. I didn't actually check until I put the needle to the wax and found that it was three 33rpm ~6 minute tracks.

I didn't analyze the "blue" record because I didn't notice any audible degradation on the 50th spin. Plus this video was already way too long.

It didn't really factor in anywhere, but the blue record actually had some skipping issues on spin 1 that persisted throughout. Slight warp I think.

I've seen it mentioned that the tone-arm on the Cruiser is too short, which means the stylus will be misaligned as it moves further into the record. I was only spinning the very first track, so I am curious if it gets worse on tracks towards the inside.

In retrospect it might have been more interesting to play something with a more full spectrum of sound. And if it were something I actually enjoyed listening to.

A number of people have pointed out that my cartridge may have been miswired. You are very perceptive and correct. Pretty embarrassing on my part.
