We wrote this song to try to raise awareness of this issue, one of the worst human rights scandals in Europe. The problems in Romania's institutions have not been solved; the children that we saw in the newspapers and on our TV screens in the orphanages in the 1990s are now adults, and many of them are still living in these terrible places.
The United Nations Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities states that everybody has the right to live in society, and nobody should be excluded from enjoying this basic human right because they have a disability. In Romania, and in many other Eastern European countries, this basic human right is denied to tens of thousands of people; they are left to rot in apalling conditions in grim institutions.
