Childhood

Çaplı was born in 1949 in İzmir as son of a musician father Erdoğan Çaplı and an opera artist mother Azra Gün. When he was 6 years old, they moved to USA. When he was only 10 years old he played bongo at his fathers concerts. One of those performances was on Ed Sullivan Show.

USA Years

In 1964 he played with a band called Groop Ltd. and made The Beatles covers. They released a 45-rpm disc includes 2 songs by him. After a while he played guitars for The Heard.
In 1965, he joined The Sundowners as drummer and used his name as Kim Capli. They released their first single in New York. After a year, they moved to Los Angles and released another single. Their luck turned in 1967 with their include for The Monkees tour. Jimi Hendrix was there too. He met him and played with him. In 1948, band released their first and last album called "Captain Nemo". He wrote the opening song Sunny Day People with Dominick DeMieri. (Çaplıs name deleted in 2007 remastered version) He sang vocals for the Easy Does It song. When the recording over, before the release, he left the band.
He met The Monkees frontman Davy Jones in 1967 tour and joined them for "Hard to Believe" song from "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd." album, played the instruments. In 1987, The Monkees released a live album for 1967 tour under the name "Live 1967". The Sundowners and Kerim Çaplı was in that album for 4 songs. He lived in USA for a while and suddenly he came back to Turkey.
He was with Jimi Hendrix in Woodstock.

Turkey Years

As he turned to Turkey he did compulsory military service. Played drums for MFÖ for a long time. Played with Nükhet Duru, Orhan Atasoy, Umay Umay. Married in 1985 and had 4 children. In 1994 he divorced from his wife.
In his last years he played drums for Blue Blues Band with Batu Mutlugil, Sunay Özgür and Yavuz Çetin. He founded Kerim Çaplı Band and played guitars and did vocals. Tansel Küçükseyhan as guitarist and Bozkurt Çavuşoğlu as drummer played along with him.
On November 2, 2004, he died of cerebral edema.
