Deconstructed:Chopin Prelude in Em - Cathie Travers, accordion & programming - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 22, 2017
DESCRIPTION:
This is based on the MOTION TRIO version of Chopin's short piano prelude. I've kept M-Trio's notion of doubling the length of the bar, using a bossa rhythm [instead of Chopin's repeated 8th notes] for the comping, the [percussive] repeated 8th note rhythm on the registration switches, and a bossa rhythm on the bellows. However, I've gone for decorating the melodic line, and there are some differences in what I'm doing with the bass-box [once it comes in] because I'm playing a stradella-bass instrument rather than a free-bass.

My accordion is mic'd using two AKG mics. All audio is handled by a MOTU Ultralitemk3. The software taking care of loops is Ableton Live. My live accordion sound is in one desk [including a Quadraverb] and the audio from Ableton is in another desk. Outputs from both desks go to a small PA setup behind me.

The audio outs from the Tape send of the desks were also sent to a separate bit of software [MOTU Digital Perfomer] to record two stereo pairs: 1) my live accordion; and 2) the loops coming from the laptop.

Outboard MIDI gear: Roland FC-300; additional switch and continuous-data pedals plugged into the FC-300

The accordion is a Pigini Super King
