DESCRIPTION:
The Gray Suits were Jack Orszaczky (bass and vocals), Carl Orr (guitar), Chris Abrahams (piano and recitation) and Tony Buck (drums).
They played on Tuesday nights in the early 1990s at Round Midnight in Kings Cross, Sydney and at appalling weddings and private parties on occasional Saturdays.
They were on at Round Midnight from 9pm to midnight and they played badly. This didn't stop people coming along each week to listen.
The repertoire was described as "mediocre covers" and was gleaned from the weddings and private party gigs.
The Gray Suits concept was inspired by noticing at private party gigs, that if they played badly the audience didn't notice the difference.
There are half a dozen tunes recorded, which we'll put on Youtube.
This track is 'Sex Machine' (James Brown). Recording by Frankie Lee. Gray Suits illustration by J Orszaczky.
