DIMINUENDO, an italian musical term that literally means “diminishing” (to gradually decrease the volume of the music), is Andrea Lombardini’s first record as a leader on CAM Jazz after recording with Fulvio Sigurtà and the collective poL0 on the same label. This unusual setting gains from the different timbric resources of the musicians through original compositions of the leader and evocative melodies coming from distant musical worlds: from ancient carols to movie soundtracks. Michel Godard, being the “voice” of the trio, alternates between tuba and serpent with proven virtuosity and Emanuele Maniscalco, ECM recording artist and member of the ILK collective, is equally at home playing piano or drums. The leader, one of the few specialist of the electric bass in improvised music contexts, also debuts the colascione lute, an acoustic instrument developed during the italian renaissance, the bass of the lute family. The resulting music has a very wide orizon, tibric variety, emotional power and is tied to both languages of afroamerican and european jazz
