The Kaliphat was born and raised in Harlem NYC July 3, 1985. He grew up in 1199 East River Co-op on 109th Street and 1st avenue, the same place where Cam’ron, Jim Jones, Damon Dash, and Malik Yoba, all resided at one point in their lives. He got his start in music at very young age. His mother is a vocalist and at one point was an aspiring singer and would bring him and his younger brother with her to studio recording sessions and to live performances. By the ages of 8 and 9 he was already familiar with how the recording process worked and would watch producers put together songs while at the studio. During this time period he taught himself to play the keyboard and would often mimic songs that he heard on the radio. Using his mother’s keyboard, he would mimic songs from the Wu-tang clan, which was the group that got him to develop a love and appreciation for hip-hop music in the early 90’s. He is also considered a musical child prodigy for his abilities.

By the mid 90’s his mother stopped pursuing a career in music to focus more on raising her children after realizing how difficult that lifestyle was to maintain. When she stopped The Kaliphat focused more on playing basketball. As the son of former NBA Basket ball player and Street Ball Legend, Kevin “Will Power” Williams, the apple did not fall far from the tree. However, the music has never left him and did not seem to go away. His stepfather at the time, in the mid 90’s, was a Dj and he became intrigued with the art of Djing. His step father was reluctant to teach him the art due to how young he was, but after he noticed how fast the Kaliphat was able to learn, it wasn’t long before he was djing parties with him. At age 11 The Kaliphat was djing parties and performing tricks on the turntables. It was this time period the Kaliphat developed an ear for beats because djing involves skills in transitioning from one record to the next and blending records with each other, among other things. Djing is what planted the desire in The Kaliphat to want to make beats.

In 1999 the Kaliphat started making beats and was only 13 years old at the time. Music seemed to follow him everywhere that he went. It was his Uncle, who is also a producer/CEO who first introduced him and showed him how to make a beat using Acid 2.0 and a Yamaha drum machine. The Kaliphat still was unable to do it consistently since he did not have equipment of his own. That same year, he started his freshman year at a private high school on a full scholarship as a boarding student. He was always extremely gifted and smart with a way above average IQ, which afforded him to attend gifted schools his entire life. It was in high school where he advanced his skills in music production as well playing piano. It was that time when he learned to play classical. He would continue to make beats, produce songs, and Dj parties throughout his high school career. Between his mother, his brother, his uncles, step father and cousins, who all seem to be in involved in music in some way, it appears that music chose The Kaliphat as opposed to The Kaliphat choosing the music.
