From the Louis Armstrong Jazz Festival at Mundesley, Norfolk - April 2012. This was from our themed set, 'Bunk'n'Bill' - a salute to Bunk Johnson and the jazz enthusiast, Bill Russell, who recorded Bunk on the famous American Music series in the 1940s.
Mike Pointon did a Radio 2 documentary about this some years ago.
We were delighted to have one of Germany's top trumpeters, Herbert Christ as a special guest. Tim Phillips, Karl Hird and Annie Hawkins complete the front line. Audio was captured on the little H2 recorder - a bit too close to Herbert - but nevertheless, it did a fine job of capturing the sound of the band.
I get a chance to play in a Baby Dodds style, using lost of press rolls and blocks / rims. There was only one Baby Dodds and my playing can only nod in his direction!
