Like many people, I was appalled when I learned of Leelah Alcorn's tragic suicide and the events leading up to it. I say appalled negating shocked, because saying that I was shocked would be a lie. The fact that this poor girl was treated this way doesn't shock me at all and that's absolutely disgusting. There is a war being waged against any person who goes against the literal interpretation of the Bible. Most of the people who are protruding this verbal diarrhea are performing a victim-less crime. They get on their soapbox and shout for a little bit, we have a good laugh, and then it's over. But some of these people are parents, school officials and even politicians. There's no end in sight for people with hateful attitudes towards people of color, non-Christians, and LGBT people squirming their way into the way of progress and tolerance. This song is about the frustration that I feel from seeing this on a daily basis. To put it simply, I am surrounded by so many LGBT people on a daily basis that I often forget that the general population is straight and cisgender. Some of my friends are open to loving support, some are open to hate, some are still in the closet and aren't sure if they'll ever come out, and some have tried to do what Leelah did to get away from it all. This Ends Here. Stop the Hate. Stop the Violence. Please. Thank you.
