PAPIK PRESENTS COCKTAIL MARTINO - TRIBUTE TO BRUNO MARTINO

Cocktail Martino is a project by Nerio 'Papik' Poggi, dedicated to Bruno Martino, one of the most important and influential Italian author and performer of the last century.
Bruno Martino is the composer of ‘E la chiamano Estate’ but above all 'Summer', the only song by an Italian composer to make it in the Real Book, the book that list the most famous music scores of the Most know Jazz standards from all over the world. Out of the hundreds Versions of ‘Estate’ the ones by Chet Baker and Joao Gilberto probably remain the most touching. Bruno Martino was from Rome and began his career at fifteen in 1940’s playing in jazz bands. In the 60's he was crowned as one of the most important Italian composers and performers and continued to work until the 90s writing and performing live. He passed away in Rome in June 2000.
Nerio 'Papik' Poggi had already declared his 'love' for Bruno Martino redoing in each of his two albums a piece by the great Artist. But with this project he is finally able to give you a very clear idea of how a contemporary artist can feel so close to an Artist of the past, even if recent, and can revive it in a form that maintains the tradition and the mixture with modernity.
In this project Nerio has involved tens of musicians, but primarily those who work closely with him, like guitarist Alfredo Bochicchio, trumpeter Massimo Guerra, bassist Pierpaolo Ranieri, keyboards player Fabrizio Foggia, drummer Marco Rovinelli and on percussions Simone"Federicuccio" Talone. Among the Vocalists the German crooner Tom Gaebel, a very talented artist completely unknown in Italy, but very popular in Germany, Federico Stragà and Alessandro Pitoni, both singers very close to the world of jazz and with performances at the San Remo Festival in the past, Matteo Brancaleoni, the Italian crooner that just recently released his own album produced by Papik himself. Other singers appearing on the album and well worth a mentioning : Daniele ‘Bengi’ Benati (leader of the group ‘Ridillo’), Fred Buccini, Vittoria Siggillino, Paco Di Maso, Francesca Gramegna, The Barbera Connection e Cristiana Polegri (who sings and plays Sax).
The majority of the compositions are by Bruno Martino, chosen from his best-known songs and other songs chosen from his big repertoire such as The Girl From Ipanema by Jobim (here sung by Tom Gaebel).
Overall, the album is a little gem of easy listening as we have become accustomed by Papik in the last few years with it’s projects.
