Dave Bartholomew "Hey-Hey" (Broadmoor, 1967): Jonathan Toubin's Daily NY Night Train Party Platter - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 28, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
Today as I leave Mexico City all to soon and head back to the states, I'm throwing up the Dave Bartholomew killer that kicks off, "Hey Hey, Let's go to Mexico"...

Though some Big Easy arrangements were getting strung out or sitar-ed by the late 1960s, this one is recorded rough and retains the classic elegant aesthetic of many of Bartholomew's finest masterpieces, leaving plenty of room for the immediate rhythmic force of the instruments to dominate the track - with a heaping helping of classic Mardi Gras call-and response ladled all over the top of it! While you can hear funkier times coming on, and there are indeed some flaming hot drum breaks in here, this one is still rooted in raw rhythm and blues! Its own wild animal, way beyond category, and one of the supreme spins...

Employ this to get the party started! And check out the killer flip "Junk Man"

This is my daily addition to the New York Night Train Party Platter playlist. Each track here is recorded directly from the original 45 (no bootlegs, reproductions, etc) to give you an idea of what the real deal authentic vinyl sounds like. COME BACK EVERY DAY FOR A NEW FIX! Because the records pass so quickly at my parties, this channel is an attempt to stop and focus on one record at a time in hopes that it'll turn you on to the artists, tracks, labels, etc. But mostly I hope this music moves you as much as it moves me.

Get your enjoys,
