Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band dates back to the early 1980's, known then as Birmingham School of Music Band; the conductor at that time was Roy Curran.

Renamed Birmingham Conservatoire in 1989 the band has had an illustrious list of former conductors including Stephen Roberts, Steven Mead, Philip McCann and Andy Culshaw. Ian Porthouse has been Head of Brass Band Studies for nearly ten years, and in that time has tackled some major concert projects, including performances of the complete Planets Suite.

The band has a strong association with Tredegar Town Band and regularly perform joint concerts in the Adrian Boult Hall. They are delighted to be taking part in this year’s UniBrass competition!

Birmingham Conservatoire came 2nd at UniBrass 2016, also being awarded the prizes for best march and best percussion.
