Dearmond and sunrise put real pickups in soundholes decades ago. Elmore James. Lighning Hopkins. They had regular pickups mounted in acoustics. About 20 years ago fishman, baggs, and chet atkins perfected the undersaddle units with very flexible preamps to the point that gut string guitars are amped without microphones.
