Avenue of the Giants for tuba quartet (2013) by Brandon Davis - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 07, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
Avenue of the Giants is an episodic showpiece that highlights everything the tuba can do. Each individual part was designed to be equally virtuosic as show off the range of the tuba spanning four octaves. The piece is a personal response to my first experience visiting the Humboldt National Forest on the coast of Northern California. The musical inspiration came from an early morning improvisation I had among some of the oldest and tallest trees on Earth. Each section is marked with a fanfare ritornello that "grows" throughout the course of the piece emphasizing intervals of a perfect fourth, tri-tone, and perfect fifth consecutively.

This piece was written for the USC Bass Tuba Quartet in 2013. This performance is from my first DMA Tuba recital at the University of Souther California Thornton School of Music on April 22, 2014.
