BOXBOMB began in the spring of 2003, finding all of its members under the age of 21. During this post-hardcore era many of their contemporaries explored the “emo” style, or the various forms of indie rock. Boxbomb, however, chose another route: early 90’s grunge/alt rock, using the inspiration and successes of those before them. Their self-released “Golden EP” (2005) paid homage to such bands as Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead (circa The Bends), and other late 20th century greats.

Boxbomb's first full length, My Obsession, is a blend of homage and originality that is breath of fresh air. Drawing upon influences that range from Radiohead to Ryan Adams, My Obsession never sounds like any one of its influences at one time. Simply put, My Obsession is a rock record without the overused formulas of modern radio or any MTV trends. Boxbomb's debut finds a young band exploring complex issues of war, peace, love, and humanity. If you want nasal-driven vocals, whining of a lost high school relationship, please look elsewhere. My Obsession is a dark journey with intelligently themed songs, but you don't need a PhD to appreciate it.
