(Cover) "Tequilia Sunrise" (Don Henley and Glenn Frey cover) by Bob Coltrain Kennedy - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 27, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
This was the first single on the Eagles second album, "Desperado". Produced by Glyn Johns for Asylum Records and released in 1973. I like the mix of musical influences/genres and arrangement of this song, and, in my opinion, the open for interpretation of the lyrics. It seems to have a little bit of folk, pop and a whole lot of country rock. It has such a light and mellow feel and I've always enjoyed singing it. Don was quoted as saying that Glenn was a little ambivalent about it being to cliche, because the mixed drink of the same name was so popular at the time. Don told Glenn to look at it from a different point of view, and then reminded him that he'd been sipping Tequila all day and the sun was coming up. Alan Jackson also recorded this song in 1993 as part of a tribute album, "Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles". This classic tune holds a lot of youthful memories for many...myself included. The contributions from each Eagle on the album were as follows:
Glenn Frey: Lead Vocals, Acoustic Guitar
Don Henley: Drums, Percusssion, Backing Vocals
Randy Meisner: Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals
Bernie Leadon: Electric Guitar, Mandolin, Backing Vocals
The writers lyrics appear below:
Tequilia Sunrise~
It's another tequila sunrise
Staring slowly 'cross the sky, said goodbye
He was just a hired hand
Working on the dreams he planned to try
The days go by
Every night when the sun went down
Just another lonely boy in town
and she's out running 'round
She wasn't just another woman
And I couldn't keep from comin' on
It's been so long
Oh, and it's a hollow feelin' when
it comes down to dealin' friends
it never ends
Take another shot of courage
Wonder why the right words never come
You just get numb
It's another tequilia sunrise, this old world
still looks the same,
Another frame
