BIOGRAPHY

ISKRA is an anarchist crust / metal band based from the western Canadian city of Victoria, British Colombia. Founded in November of 2002, the members sought to create music influenced by the raw, aggressive sound of early Scandanavian Black Metal and fuse it with early English style Crust; referring to this new style as 'Blackened Crust.' Although this term was first used by Victoria-based 90's act Black Kronstadt, it has become synonymous with Iskra's early style.

Over the past decade, the band has evolved stylistically from 'Blackened Crust' towards a more fluid merging of elements from Death Metal, Black Metal and Grind; with the music always informed and influenced by their anarchist ethic- referring now to the band as 'Anarchist Metal.'

Lyrically, the band stresses individual and regional / local empowerment in place of large-scale state power structures - with an emphasis on the importance of cultural power as a means to take space for anarchist projects.

In autumn of 2012, Iskra will celebrate their ten year anniversary with a European tour, performing 45 dates, in fourteen countries through-out mainland Europe.
