This song is a true story about a man from Renews, Newfoundland.Gussy Hayes was hurtin' for a drink and no money in his pocket.So he turned to his record collection and extracted the alcohol from them by boiling them on the wood stove and straining the good stuff from them.One record imparticular was a single called the Tennessee Waltz.He had a few fellas over and offered them a drink.They thought the drink was pretty good and asked him what the drink was called.Gussy Hayes says well, that drink is called the Tennessee waltz.A few years later i got a call from his daughter confirming that the story was true because she helped him melt the records when she was six years old.
