BLAH (THEATTRIKS)

Damon Gilmer, who is also known as Blahzay the Akademic, is 30 years of age. He was born, raised, and still resides in Oxnard California. Oxnard is a military town, about an hour or so north of Los Angeles, and 45 minutes south of Santa Barbara. Oxnard is also home to several well-known HipHop acts such as Lootpack, Madlib and Declaime.



Oxnard is a hidden gem of musical talent and it is also believed to be home of the next generation of MC's, producers, and musicians. Blahzay got involved with music during his early childhood. As a youth his family taught the chldren about rhythm & blues as well as classical music. During this stage in his life, he and the other children would perform new age r&b songs. Some of his favorites included: The Boyz, Anotha Bad Creation, and New Edition. His parents would make him, his brother, and cousin perform renditions of Michael Jackson as well. He would say that this practice was the origin of his dancing ability and it inspired him to write love songs.



Over the course of time Blahzay began to listen to more and more Hip-Hop music. In 1992 he joined a local group called the 'Land of Soul' where he honed his MC skills. This collaboration of ideas brought him a little closer to his quest to master the art of writing rhymes. Not just rhymes, but lyrics to compete with heavyweight MC's such as: LL Cool J, Bush Babies, Black Sheep, Brand Nubian, and De La Soul, just to name a few. Shortly after his induction to 'land of soul' he joined a B-boy crew called 'Freestyle' to balance out his cultural experience, by practicing the art of B-boying.



By the year 2002, Blahzay began working with Realithamann and Charles Randolph of "The Beat Fossils". It was from this point that he groomed his lyrical style. He began recording shortly thereafter.



Blahzay's objective for making music is to bring consciousness to the world. To enlighten the young, the old, every race, and religion. To unite people for one common cause, which is PEACE through music. Blahzay the Akademic: "I just want to give a significant and positive contribution to the world through music. My goal is to be respected and recognized for my abilities as an individual doing what he feels is right. "
