DESCRIPTION:
Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today, we've stepped into the web of the Black Widow MGP-1A. The MGP-1A is the world's first all-analog tube powered modeling preamplifier. Unlike every other modeling preamp on the market, the MGP-1A relies on Black Widow's proprietary VEnuM technology that uses real tubes and highly-refined switching circuits to reconfigure components in the signal path on the fly, controlling delicate elements such as breakup characteristics and harmonic generation. Black Widow designed the MGP-1A to perfectly emulate a variety of different classic preamp sounds in tandem with enhancing the touch sensitivity and dramatically reducing the noise floor. 18 all-tube preamp circuits are available, with three channels of three amps apiece and a full complement of EQ controls. The Clean channel features a '59 Bassman, a Marshall JTM-45 and a Vox AC-30. The Crunch channel serves up models of the Mesa Boogie Mark IV, Marshall JCM800, and a classic Orange Graphic MKII. Finally, the Drive Channel gives you models of the Mesa Dual Rectifier, Marshall JCM900 SL-X and the Diezel Herbert. Within each channel, several switches help further configure the raw tone, offering mods on each circuit made famous by Bogner, Engl, and several others. Across all channels, not a single one or zero permeates the signal path, ensuring that electrons flow through the preamp from start to finish. The MGP-1A also features full MIDI control, so you can swap parts on stage with a foot controller or from the chair at your DAW. Every component within the MGP-1A is painstakingly curated, from the four Tung-Sol 12AX7s down to quality resistors and audiophile-grade capacitors. These passive components are reinforced with a number of enhancements, from super-thick silver-plated PCBs to heavy duty switches and a solid steel chassis.
