It doesn’t matter if you’re intimately familiar with When Thieves Are About or if you’ve never heard of the quartet straight out of suburban Lyndhurst, New Jersey before now: this band of friend’s have always made sure that the audience can sense the arrival of something big at any of their shows throughout their music and personality. Charged by positive morals, life experiences, and massive stage energy, When Thieves are about will always take care of their fans and will make sure that every single person in that room will always leave with a smile on their face, never forgetting the name When Thieves Are About.
With a style that dabbles with fast pop punk/melodic hardcore and the organization of their notorious catchy riffs with screaming metal breakdowns which still manages to keep a balance of soft music and poetic lyrics, it is hard find a song by these boys that the mass wouldn’t like. Some influences include NOFX, Lifetime, Comeback Kid, Saves the Day, Set Your Goals, Daggermouth, Blink 182, New Found Glory, Minor Threat, Glass Jaw, Thursday, and The Beatles.
The band was formed in the fall of 2003 with guitarist/vocalist Alfredo Diaz, bassist/vocalist Ryan Struck, and ex drummer George Moreno playing covers of their favorite punk bands in a basement under the name Bio-feedback. Soon after the trio played their first couple of shows, they realized that they needed to expand their sound. Sometime at the end of 2004, lead guitarist Stephen Ortiz was introduced into the band and was relatively short lived, leading to lead guitarist Nick Andriuolo in 2005 till 2010. Now, Steve is back in the band in 2010 because Nick wanted to finish college and pursue photography.
Bio-Feedback began to develop more melodic musical themes and was ready to be serious. The band was in need of a refreshing makeover. Between 2007 and 2010, they recorded an amateur demo in 2007, an independent EP in 2009, and bought a mini bus with the help of their ex label Stitched Up Records, changed their name to When Thieves are About, replaced their long time drummer with Josh Smith, and let out a summer EP in 2010. The band took off with success ever since then and is now releasing an independent LP this year.
To date, the band has toured and played the aforementioned venues, as well as the defunct Club Krome in South Amboy NJ’s Starland Ballroom, NYC’s Knitting Factory, The Red Zone in Queens NYC, NYC’s Webster Hall, The School of Rock in NJ, and Mexicali Live in NJ, The Fillmore at TLA in Philadelphia, PA, and many more. The band was also featured at Bamboozle May 4th 2008 and Warped Tour 09 for four dates (July 16th - Scranton, PA, 17th - Camden, NJ, 18th - Uniondale, NY, 19th - Oceanport, NJ - Monmouth Park Racetrack) and Warped Tour 2010 for July 17th and 18th.
When Thieves Are About has had the pleasure of sharing a stage with, Set Your Goals, I am the Avalanche (2x), Four Year Strong, DaggerMouth, Fireworks (2x), The Swellers (2x), Transit, Man Overboard, Such Gold, The Ataris, Driving East, Static Radio NJ (3x), Just Surrender, Sense Fail, River City Rebels, We came as Romans, Powerman 5000, Anchors for Arms, Much The Same, This Time Next Year, Crime in Stereo, Kaddisfly, With The Punches, Last Night Wars, Maker (2x).

With networking and little help from a few friends named above, When Thieves Are About have brought more and more people to expand the fan base and the their music scene nation wide and have managed to create a distinct sound that separates them from many clichés of today’s music.
