– Rock Island, Illinois - Big Boyd (born Derrick Boyd) was born in Rock Island, Illinois.



Boyd has always had a love for music and grew up listening to the old school greats such as Slick Rick, NWA, and Scar Face just to name a few. Boyd joined a band in elementary and after seeing Krush Groove (1985) his desire to be part of the music industry grew to an all new high. “After seeing that movie I knew what I was put here to do. Make money doing music.”



Veteran-MC Big Boyd debut his solo album titled “Loyalty B4 Royalty” (available on iTunes), albums run in the music industry begs you to reconsider the saying “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Because one listen to his latest offering

will show that he continues to learn new tricks in his already mastered trade.



During his teen years Boyd regularly dj’d house parties and worked on his own music.



After a few run-in’s with the law Boyd was incarcerated; looking at this as a minor set back he kept his focus on owning his own label. After studying business he went on to get his degree. Upon his release he was well equipped with the necessary knowledge, determination, and will to succeed in the industry, he founded Big Boyd Entertainment in 2001, being the CEO, artist, producer, engineer, as well as, owner of a local CD and beauty supply store. “I am a living witness that you can turn you life around and with this second chance I’m going to make the best of it.”



Boyd is the modern day Ultimate Hustler.



Dayone Music Group/Koch Entertainment took notice after seeing Big Boyd at a number of music events promoting his music and doing shows not only in the Midwest but the South as well. Big Boyd’s hot new single "Act Bad" landed on the desk of music guru James Turner and the deal was done. Dayone Music Group is the home to such artist as Khujo Goodie of Goodie Mob and Big Chief. Big Boyd is the first artist from the Midwest to be signed to the label. "When You Know Better You Do Better", is due out summer of 2008.
