DESCRIPTION: Betsy Rutherford sings the old ballad "Lady Gay" in this 1974 concert performance by the New Ruby Tonic Entertainers in Baltimore, Md. The song, Child Ballad #79, is also known as "The Wife of Usher's Well." In her introductory comments, Betsy Rutherford takes issue with some ballad scholars about the identity of the "master" of the three dead sons. Carl Conn recorded the concert and preserved the tapes. Music from the concert is now being made available to the public 37 years later.
