Bermuda Road

I N T R O D U C T I O N

About 3 years ago, I was helping a friend plan a concert in Central Park. We were looking

for a street team to help us with the handing out of our fl yers. A 17 year old girl brought

us to Union Square and introduced us to some of the people there. It turned out that all

of those young people were homeless, sleeping on the streets in diff erent parks. I was so

moved by their story that the next day I woke up with a song in my head called “Save the

World”.

Since that day I have spent a lot of ti me in Union Square. I have interviewed the people

there about the homeless teens. Everyone who spends any ti me at all in Union Square

Park knows about them. I met a lot of the homeless kids themselves. I fi lmed them and

put the video on YouTube. I went with them on a cook out once to Batt ery Park. I came to

visit them every now and then and brought them food. I spent the night in Washington

Square Park with a diff erent group of homeless people. I was very moved by how they

lived and how they treated one another. We can all learn from them—their courage, their

wisdom, and their experience. This book is dedicated to the street kids of Union Square

Park. The ti tle of the book, Bermuda Road, is also very special. I wrote most of my poetry

while living there as I was going through my own “homelessness experience”.

I created Harmony4Kidz as a way to pay forward the kindness that was extended to me by

the owner of the Bermuda Road home.

I lived there for 2 years and the poems in this book refl ect on my own experience of not

having a home. I believe that many of the young people I met in Union Square can relate

to the words in these poems. My hope is that these poems make a diff erence for all those

who are struggling through hard ti mes in their lives. My intenti on is that the words in

these poems inspire the reader to strive for a meaningful life regardless of his or her

current circumstances.

This book, Bermuda Road, has been writt en to touch, move and inspire all those who read

it to create a life that they love and to share their bounty, their unique talents and gift s

with the world.

That is what I have done and what I would like to contribute to all those who read my book.
