A collection of Belle Epoque – related songs while picture of the period run on the screen.
The “belle époque” is the period from the late 19th century to the early 20th century until the First World War: this was the age of the cinematographer invention, of the Can Can music, of many technologic progresses.
It was a period characterized by optimism, peace at home and in Europe, new technology and scientific discoveries. The peace and prosperity in Paris allowed the arts to flourish, and many masterpieces of literature, music, theatre, and visual art gained recognition.
It ended with the tragedy of Titanic.
The Belle Époque was named, in retrospect, when it began to be considered a "golden age" in contrast to the horrors of World War I.
