Bodine 'Be' Johnson - THE BEGINNING
Bodine 'Be' Johnson has been an entertainer for as long as she can remember having evolved from being a poet into a writer, television and radio producer and host, model, actress, designer, spokeswoman and businesswoman.
Her music, heavily inspired by The Caribbean (for obvious reasons) is at times a mixture of Jazz vocals and Reggae rhythms and at others saucy commentary on life and relationships set to high tempo Dancehall and Soca beats. Then at other times it is somber and moody reflecting the not so happy side of love. All in all, this drama diva cuts no corners and tells it like it is.
Bodine is just the BeGinning of a new breed of Bahamian Entertainment. Fearless, Ambitious and Focused, This Bahamian Bombshell has had her songs downloaded in such places as France, Germany, the Netherlands, Jamaica, Italy, and the Caribbean. With three songs topping the Bahamian music charts. She has performed on the same stages as some of Reggae's heavy hitters such as Buju Banton, Chuck Fender, Jah Cure, Fanton Mojah, IWayne, Elephant Man, Beenie Man, Tessanne Chin, KyMani Marley, Bad Gyal CeCile, Pressure, Taurus Riley, and Demarco. As a performance poet and singer, she has opened for Sheila Ray Charles (daughter of Jazz Legend Ray Charles) and is also scheduled to open for Vaughn Anthony, brother of reknown entertainer John Legend.
Signed to Frontline Productions and in conjunction with BuffBoo Records, Bodine has released two songs on Reggae Riddim Compilation Albums The CopyCat Riddim (One) and The Promise Riddim (I Don't Want You Anymore) and is working on a full length album. Her releases, 'Free Milk', 'Intoxicated', 'Gotta Move On', 'Show Stopper', 'Hook Up with Me' and others have not only been well-received by Bahamian audiences but music lovers the world over.
Since releasing her debut single 'One', on the CopyCat Riddim Compilation Album in 2007, Bodine's popularity has spread nationwide and she is stretching into the Caribbean with her music being played in Jamaica, Guyana, Grenada, Miami, New York and many other countries and cities.
Her release 'I Don't Want You' on BuffBoo Record's Promise Riddim has been ranked among the Top 40 by Captain Kirk of the Starfleet Music Pool, listed among the Top 50 downloads of the Masspool DJ Association, and has been downloaded as far as France, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, and South America while simultaneously hitting the Top of the Bahamian Music Charts.
As a hostess, Bodine has hosted television shows Caribbean Flava, Bahamas' Top Model, and on stage she has hosted the Diva's Ink Fashion Show and Miss Global Bahamas Pageant in 2009. She has also hosted the CARICOM Youth Awards show held in the British Virgin Islands in 2006. In 2007 she scripted, hosted and co-produced 'News in Education' as part of The Bahamas' Ministry of Education's Bahamas Learning Channel.
As a playwright and actress Bodine has co-produced and co-directed two stage shows, 'Sirens' and 'Afro-DZ-Ac' which included acting, singing and dancing as part of Panache Productions. She has worked as a Freelance entertainment writer for The Nassau Guardian, one of The Bahamas' daily newspapers with articles featured every Friday on Nassau's hottest night-spots.
In 2008 she was awarded a contract as spokesperson for the Bahamas Telecommunications Company appearing in two television advertisements, and multiple print advertisements since including a feature in the 2009 Phone Book. She has done school tours with Tempo Television and BTC as part of the Badness Outta Style School Tour and Tempo Turns 3 celebrations.
Bodine is also a radio personality, having worked at Island Fm 102.9 in The Bahamas since 2004. Trained in radio production, she is a production assistant and host of her own nightly show – "The Island Rhapsody" which airs Monday through Fridays. She is known for the distinct sound of her show, being part of the only radio station which specializes in playing World Music, a mixture of Caribbean and International genres such as African, Soca, Zouk, Reggae, Jazz, Blues and Soul.
Bodine interviews Bahamian Artists who specialize in Non-Traditional Bahamian Music such as Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae, Rock, Jazz, Soul and Junka-Pop on her smash-hit Friday show called the Friday Inferno.
