BAGHEAD - 2016 CS - Video

DESCRIPTION:
For real, my dudes?

Nobody else has gotten to posting this Baghead tape? I assumed that some other loser woulda got on top of this back when it first dropped in March, y’know, to reap internet points by posting it on their Youtube channels. I was busy with other uploads when it was first released, and thought that someone else would’ve shared it before I could find a window to, so I didn’t bother. But no, nobody’s gotten to exploiting this band for personal gain yet, so it looks like I gotta take the reins here again. Because, as we all know, views and likes are important; it’s honestly the only reason why I’m doing this. You’re all nothing but a set of numerical statistics to me, I couldn’t give two shits about three fucks about your bands. Honest.

Oh, look, I’m self-aware again. I’m pretty sure that it goes without saying, but I’m just yanking on everybody’s pigtails. And evidently, there’s a lot of pigtails to be yanked, seeing that there’s 3,000 of you numbnuts following me now. That’s really cool, actually. I remember getting stoked back when I first hit 100 subscribers after a few months of sharing music, and now I’m getting around 10 subscribers a day. That may not sound like much, but it really adds up after a while. I’m not bringing this up just to brag or something (I’m a human worth being pitied, if anything), because it’s a relevant point of reference. To me, Baghead is synonymous with that period of time, back when I was regularly sponging for random strangers’ attention in hopes that some would bend their ears my way.

I first posted Baghead, a hardcore group hailing from Mississippi, on my channel back in June 30th of 2015, meaning the video is just barely a year old by now. I had a few dozen subs by that point, and was still treating that whole deal as a hobby that was never going to go anywhere. One of the few punk friends I had at the time linked me a rip of some split tape featuring two Mississippi punk bands, with those of course being Baghead and their sister project, Big Bleach, recommending that I listen to it because it seemed like something that’d be right up my alley. He was totally right; both Baghead and Big Bleach blew my mind, especially once I realized that they were coming from Mississippi, of all places. I don’t know what’s happened to that particular guy since then, but if I were to guess, that gross fuck is probably still sitting in his one-bedroom apartment down in Alabama, eating Cheez Whiz off of Ritz crackers for dinner every night. Anyways, I ended up posting their “Big Bag Split Tape” onto my channel, as well as Baghead’s demo, within a matter of days. I was in love with their music; hell, I would’ve posted something Big Bleach too, if it wasn’t for the fact that they didn’t have their own release by that point in time. A band who, by the way, incestualizes 75% of the same members as Baghead, save for Baghead’s drummer and Big Bleach’s bassist—er, I probably shouldn’t use the word “incestualize” when I’m talking about a band located in Mississippi, should I? It makes me feel like I’m saying something that’ll get me put on a list somewhere.

Those two posts ended up drawing the attention of Hampton, who handles vocals in Baghead and guitar in Big Bleach. He sent me a message to say thanks and to ask if we’ve met, seeing that I posted their tour tape—I mean, how else would some nerd hear their material? [Hint: punk blogs] So whatever, big whoop, right? Some Mississippian turd contacted me, it’s not like he’s the Pope or anything. Well, that was actually the first time a member of a band that I’ve posted has contacted me, like, ever. Hampton noticed me, and as dorky as it sounds, I thought it was the coolest shit. It wasn’t so much WHO he was (get over yourself, Hampton), it was just that I was actually getting attention from the people involved in the music I’d share. It was a real eye-opener, and made me realize how much more of an impact my silly channel could have aside from just sharing cool music with random people—not to mention the fact that I was offered free tapes, which was also pretty nice of him (even though Hampton didn’t send me anything until four months later, but hey, it’s the thought that counts).
