DESCRIPTION: Ayn Inserto's central concern in Playtime is that the performers have fun. Consequently she packs the piece full of games and toys—a drum set-derived figure for the piano, playful interaction between piano and clarinet, many surprises in rhythm and phrasing. All these elements become rich fodder for improvisation. --Darryl Harper
