A comparison of two Sovtek made EHX Big Muff Pi distortion sustainers. The "Green Tank" version and the slimmer, newer, "Blackie" version.
After some hard times, American company Electro-Harmonix teamed up with Russian company Sovtek to manufacture the famous Big Muff PI (1990). This cheaper model, according to dubious legend constructed out of old Russian tank parts, sounds similar to its American-made brother but has its own unique flavor of "Muffyness", particularly their notable bassy bottom end. Both feature that creamy, violin sustain that has made the Big Muff PI a staple on guitarists' pedal boards for 30 years.
