**The background story**
(This is the original Facebook post from Branden's account, the 5th day of his wife, Abigail, being in the ICU.)

"I'm going to try to put the last week into a few paragraphs since we've not really publicly updated anyone.

Abigail's pregnancy, from the beginning, has been perfect. Every doctors visit has ended with, "You and your baby look perfectly healthy and everything looks exactly the way it should."

We initially went to the doctor's office on Monday for her weekly checkup. At the time, she was 37 weeks and 5 days, and was pre-eclamptic. After some monitoring, the doctor decided that we were at a point where we could go ahead and safely induce.

We were so excited.

We called our families and headed upstairs to get registered and to get a room. Shortly after she had been induced, she started complaining of contraction pain, so she was given pain medication. That medication made her nauseous so they gave her medicine for her nausea. Almost immediately, she started screaming that her head hurt and that she felt like she was dying.

Even after all the kidney stones and other things Abby has gone through before this, I have never seen her in this much pain. I've never seen her go through anywhere near that amount of pain.

They checked her blood pressure twice as her doctor walked in, and it read 215/100 and then 225/112 while our baby's pulse dropped from 140 to 50. They called the OR and immediately rushed her out. We were all in shock and terrified.

I was taken to a room by myself so I could change and then see her in the Operating Room.

I never made it in there.

To make a long story a little shorter, they got my baby boy out and rushed him to the NICU. Within 20 minutes of having our Oliver, my Abigail died twice. The first time she coded, I heard about it over the intercom, waiting in that room alone. They revived her and rushed her to the ICU. Once she got there, she coded again, and was revived.

My beautiful son was born at 3:42pm on Monday, and weighed 6lbs 6oz, and measured 20in. Since then, my boy has done a great job fighting and recovering. His main problem was the trauma and stress he went through while still inside Abby. He is on oxygen but has been steadily weaned off it all week. He also has infant jaundice, but is being treated for it as well. He's doing very well and will probably be out of the NICU in a few days.

Abigail has been described as a miracle by everyone that has been involved with her, here at the hospital. She fought incredibly hard in the first 24 hours. She made incredible strides, stunning all of the doctors and nurses, and within 22 hours of coding, was in good enough condition to be taken off the ventilator and taken off 3 of her 6 of her IV's. No one could believe how well she was doing. She has continued to fight and recover faster than anyone could have expected. Tuesday, they had her on an oxygen mask. By Thursday, her oxygen levels were looking so good, they decided they could take her off the mask. She was able to get up on her own and walk two laps around the ICU. At midnight, the nurse pulled some strings and we were able to put Abby in a wheelchair and roll her down to see Oli for the first time.

Needless to say, it was an overwhelming experience, having my little family all together for the first time.

As of today, the doctors have just told her that she will be taken off oxygen completely and taken out of the ICU to get a normal room in the Labor Hall. Every single doctor and nurse involved are brought to tears every time they see her and her unbelievable progress. We have had countless doctors and nurses, some we don't even know, come visit and tell us they've heard about her and just wanted to check in. The doctors and nurses get visibly excited when they see or hear about her recovery.

I could go into more detail, but it would end up literally being a book. All I have to say is that God is wonderful. God has continually worked in my wife and my baby, through these amazing doctors and nurses. I wish I could put into words everything that I've felt and witnessed this week. I have never felt so much pain and fear, but I have also never felt so much joy and appreciation.

As of now, we're still very focused on their recovery and just spending time together, so we won't be able to answer everyone's questions or respond to many of you just yet. Please just understand that everyone is doing great and we are overwhelmed with love for our boy and all of the love and support we've been shown.

God is good."
