The sixth instalment in our extensive classic covers series* is I'm The Ocean, a monster of a song from Neil Young's collaboration with Pearl Jam, 1995's Mirror Ball.

Neil Young has paid many dues and works hard for the Muse. He wants us all to live in a better world... better sounding, better feeling, better smelling, tasting, looking, and feeling. From Omemee to Winnipeg to Toronto to California; from Pono to the train barn and back to the Bridge School; through the written word, beautiful modes of transportation, private spiritual contributions and countless incendiary performances over many decades, his active involvement in our world is nothing to take for granted.

Anybody can do good, but not everyone is blessed with the ability to realize their own gifts. It is silly to write up a mini-biography here. Even if, by some modern utopian fluke you have never heard of Neil, the technology currently at your disposal will show you the way... (though the music won't sound as good as it did when it was recorded... we're ready for you, Pono!)

He has earned unfathomable amount of respect from us, and without his existence, we would not likely be making music. We make music for one reason: we know that we must listen when creativity calls. It is impossible to describe the importance and significance of this song to us. The experience was a bit like reading Neil's book, WAGING HEAVY PEACE. To catch a glimpse of an appealing reality and feel at home in our own minds, we follow Neil.

Thank you again to our fans for commissioning such fine works of art! This time we must thank Michael Coll. Your song selection harmonized perfectly with a short film project we had begun working on around two years ago. The two art works merged into one epic, 10-minute music video. The film documents private moments from our lives, and looks out at our part of the world through eyes filled with wonder. Our director Al Munstero figured out how to show us in a new light. Southern Ontario has been home to us for most of our lives. A longtime family friend, Al followed us to Nova Scotia and filmed an assortment of bits with each of us alone by the sea. The result is a revealing short film with a truly spontaneous climax and an inimitable version of I'm The Ocean.

As a viewer, your feelings about what you see are left up to you. Neil's lyrics conjure potent imagery, some of which we captured in tandem with the song in another dimension. The ocean beckons and urges us all to visit. Respect the Earth and love the ones who use their abilities for the good of all its inhabitants. ROCK THE FUCK OUT in the process.

Although at times they may appear to be working for themselves, artists give up everything in the name of Truth. In spite of love at times, they are alone. They suffer and they feel for all of us, and hopefully, they get to enjoy some wonderful creative experiences in the process. They know that the rest of the world will get riled up, then settle down and wait and be better for it. We all know what's good for ourselves and the planet. A musician like Neil Young - storyteller, inventor, teacher, human scientist of the soul - knows how to tell it. Beware the giant undertow.

Thank You Neil Young for your limitless inspiration.
