Covering a wide musical spectrum Arne Vatnoy's songs have a broad appeal to audiences of all ages, and although drawing on the traditional heritage of jazz, the 25-year-old singer/songwriter's work has a fresh, modern sound. Vatny, born and raised in a small town in Eastern Norway, has developed a style that has commercial appeal, yet demanding a keen ear from its listeners. As a Norwegian music critic put it: "Vatnoy's music captures you instantly and grows on you over time."
Vatnoy builds his songs mainly around the piano, navigating in the same musical waters as Rufus Wainwright, Ben Folds, Tori Amos, Jamie Cullum and Nick Cave. Other inspirations are legendary jazz heroes such as Chet Baker, Miles Davies and Keith Jarret. The melancholy in Arne's music is often compared to that of Jeff Buckley and Nick Drake.
After studying music at Sir Paul McCartney's LIPA (Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts) for three years (BA (Hons.)), Arne is now living in Oslo, promoting his debut album "Tide". The album received excellent reviews in the local press, and was promoted by Paul McCartney on Norwegian television. During his Liverpool-years, Arne Vatny had numerous gigs both with acoustic setting and with a full band, in amongst others Manchester, London, Liverpool, and Sale. He was considered one of the promising and exciting artists on the vibrant acoustic scene in Liverpool, the European Cultural Capital of 2008.
