(December 18, 2015) Quarterback Jamal Williams scored on a one-yard run with 11 seconds remaining and La Vega held off a final hail mary attempt to beat Argyle 33-31 and win its first football state championship in school history.

The Pirates had twice been to the state title game, in 1951 and 2008, but lost by seven each time. They nearly let this one get away despite an outstanding performance from their defense.

La Vega turned the ball over four times, twice inside their own 10-yard line, leading to two Argyle touchdowns. The Eagles took their first lead, 17-14, on a 2-yard run from Gage McCook in the third quarter following Williams' second interception of the game.

La Vega answered to start the fourth quarter when Kemoche Hobbs ran it in from three yards out, giving the Pirates a 20-17 lead after a missed extra point.

Both teams traded scores again before Argyle took advantage of a blown coverage for a 68-yard touchdown pass to McCook on 3rd and 15 to go in front 31-27 with 2:09 to play.

The Pirates marched down to the 17-yard line before a 13-yard catch by Hobbs set up Williams' game-winning touchdown. The extra point was blocked but Parrish Cobb was able to bring down the Argyle defender to preserve La Vega's 33-31 lead.

The Eagles' final hail mary attempt was knocked down well shy of the endzone, giving La Vega its first state championship in football.

The Pirates finish the year 16-0.
