Argy Bargy - Vigilante

Highlights from over 2 decades of UK Oi

By the end of the seventies Punk Rock had begun to fragment into various sub genres the most enduring of which were polar opposites Gothic Punk and Oi!

Oi! was essentially Ôthe voice of the streetsÕ. Raucous, often confrontational, the bands strove to keep the original spirit of punk rock alive and kicking. The majority of the bands hailed from South London and the East End. Bands such as Cock Sparrer, The Business and the godfathers of Oi!, Sham 69 sang songs about working class issues with football chant choruses, ideally suited to a good old p**s up down the local pub.

When the Oi! scene began to suffer through unjustified bad press it looked like it was the death knell for the likes of Peter & The Test Tube Babies, Blitz, One Way System and their many peers. As usual, the media underestimated the resilience of the bands, the music and the majority of fans taking pains to distance themselves from the political extremists. They simply went underground and created a phenomenon that is still going strong over twenty years later. This DVD contains archive live footage and rare promos of many of the bands that dominated the '80s punk scene. To help tell the story of Oi!, the DVD also includes interviews with The Business, Cock Sparrer, Argy Bargy, Last Resort, Section 5, The Crack and Oi!Õs number one advocate, Garry Bushell.
